Breathable waders
Waterproof waders made from laminated fabric that lets body moisture vapor escape, keeping anglers drier than rubber waders.
Breathable waders are made from multiple layers of laminated fabric, usually built around a waterproof membrane, that block water from getting in while still letting water vapor from sweat pass out. This is what separates them from older rubber or neoprene waders, which keep water out just as well but trap moisture and heat inside.
Because they breathe, these waders are far more comfortable across a wide range of temperatures, from cold spring mornings to warm summer wading, and layering underneath lets the same pair of waders work through most of the year. Fit and mobility are also better than heavier rubber waders, which matters for a full day of hiking to and along the water.
Breathable waders need more care than rubber ones, since the fabric can be punctured by branches or sharp rocks, and seams eventually need reproofing as the durable water repellent coating wears off. A common mistake is machine washing them with regular detergent, which can strip the coating, when a wader-specific cleaner and occasional reproofing spray keeps them breathing and shedding water properly.
