What we liked
- + Medium-fast action IM8 30T carbon blank, described as smooth loading for easy distance casting
- + CNC machined aluminum reel with disc drag, a step above the die-cast reels in cheaper starter kits
- + Kit includes 100 ft weight-forward line, tapered leaders, 10 flies in a waterproof box and a rod bag
Trade-offs
- - Medium-fast action is a little less forgiving of timing errors than a true moderate-action rod
- - Sold by a budget import brand, without the long track record of the Orvis and Redington outfits here
