# Best Trout Fly Assortments Source: https://flyfishnest.com/best/best-trout-fly-assortments Updated: 2026-09-15 Publisher: Fly Fish Nest. Our score is an editorial rating out of 10 (fit 35%, features 25%, build 20%, value 20%), not a customer rating. Method: https://flyfishnest.com/how-we-research#our-score A good trout fly assortment saves you from the classic beginner mistake: a box of two hundred flies where only a dozen ever get wet. Assortments vary widely in pattern selection, hook quality, size range, and how honestly they match the water most people actually fish. Some lean on flashy attractor patterns that photograph well, while others stick to workhorses like Pheasant Tails, Adams, and Woolly Buggers that catch trout everywhere. We weighed pattern usefulness first, then hook and material quality, size spread, and whether the box itself protects the flies. Value matters, but a cheap fly that falls apart after one fish is no bargain. Our picks range from compact starter selections for new anglers to deeper assortments suited to travel or a full season, with notes on which boxes fit tailwaters, freestones, and stillwater duty. ## Picks ### 1.
